WSYF directs units to step up vigilance efforts

DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): Expressing concern over the potential influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) on Wednesday issued a directive to its affiliated units in Niuland District—including the Aghunaqa, Niuland, Khaghaboto, Kuhuboto, and Ato Area Youth Fronts—to maintain heightened vigilance.

“Given the proximity to Assam and access through forest routes and unmanned areas, the risk of infiltration is real,” the WSYF said in a press release.

The WSYF instructed all village youth units to immediately organise rotational duties and night patrols in identified vulnerable areas. It also called for close coordination with Gaon Buras (GBs), village councils, and the district administration to ensure that no illegal movement goes undetected.

While acknowledging the efforts of the Niuland district administration and police forces in monitoring the situation, the WSYF appealed for further reinforcement, including the deployment of additional police personnel and IRB units, and the establishment of mobile checkpoints in sensitive locations.

“Illegal immigration is not merely a legal issue; it poses serious demographic, cultural, and security threats to the Naga people,” it said while affirming its commitment to safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities and asserted that any unlawful entry must be met with strict legal consequences.
