Dimapur, December 19 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has expressed support for the resolution adopted on December 12 by the Western Sumi in its general meeting at Kuhuboto Ghakhu Public Organisation (KGPO) hall, stating that it was “the right decision taken to protect the true history of Western Sumis from the biased order of the state government and its agencies.”
While the WSYF did not go into details about the nature of the resolution, it issued a press release through its Media Cell on Monday stating: “Despite issuing the status quo and eviction orders, in the very eye of the government agencies posted at the so-called declared disputed areas, every developmental activity was being carried out by the encroachers (Sic).”
It further elaborated that the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and WSYF had approached the state government and its agencies through representations, met the concerned authority and deliberated many times, even forwarding their prayer to take up the issue seriously without being biased. “But even after all our efforts, the state Government had been deaf and blind to our genuine appeal,” it maintained.
“In every provoking incident including the Burning of a House, gun firings, destruction of private plantations, cutting down of tree plantations, and destruction of paddy fields and vegetables, the Sumi people had been filling FIR but not even a single action has been taken or intimated till date,” it claimed. Instead, the state government and all its agencies had been totally backing up the encroachers by setting up SIT to investigate the November 7 incident, “using the tactics to threaten and paralyze the Western Sumi which is totally biased and uncalled for,” it added.
Further it said that on November 15, the ZYON claimed that “Kiyevi had paid 4 anna to Lamhai village, but on 8th Dec. 2022 the ZPON claimed that 1 anna was paid to Lamhai village, this is like a silly joke of children, in the pursuit to fooling the Sumis in particular and Nagas in general (Sic).”
The WSYF went on to state that the WSH President, in order to maintain a peaceful relationship, “had even gone to Jalukie town to meet Kelei and his brother Kesing who were descendants of Puti, to discuss the differences arising between Sumi and Zeliang brothers but could not meet Kelei and had to discuss with his brother Kesing alone at his residence where, he too had willingly agreed to settle the differences amicably after consulting his brother.” However, after few days, they refused to settle the issue peacefully and took a u-turn claiming it as their traditional ancestral land, it claimed.
As such, the release stated that the WSYF “strongly supports the Western Sumi resolution and though Christmas and New Year have arrived, the WSYF request all its units to be well prepared as resolved in the general meeting of Western Sumi to face any kind of eventuality so as to defend and protect the true identity and history of Western Sumi from the biased government.”
