Wushu competition begins; seven women participating in combat fight

Chümoukedima, February  15 (MExN): The two-day long Wushu competition, being held as part of the ongoing 3rd Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games, kicked off at Arena E, Sovima Chümoukedima on February 15. 

A total of 52 participants including seven female from Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Mon, Shamator, Mokokchung and Zunheboto are taking part in the championship.

For the first time after Wushu was introduced in Nagaland Olympics for the second edition, a total of 7 female participants are taking part in the competition for Sanda event for the first time. 

The Wushu Sanda comprised of Chinese martial arts applications including most aspects of combat including striking and grappling.  

On day-1, the rounds, quarterfinal matches and the semifinal matches were played while the players will compete for the gold medal on Friday. 

Inaugurated the championship, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima Dr Kuzonyi Wideo urged the participants  not only to be champions for themselves but champions of the people. 

He encouraged participants to not only excel in sports but also to become good citizens, emphasising the scarcity of such individuals and urging sportspeople to exemplify true sportsmanship and contribute to society. 

Neidilhoutuo Neibu Sechu Vice President, Nagaland Wushu Association chaired the event.

The valedictory function on February 16 will be graced by  Kudecho Khamo MLA & Advisor CAWD & Taxes and NWA president.
