Wokha, February 10 (MExN): The Wokha Village Youth organization (WVYO) and Wokha Village Students’ Union (WVSU) have condemned the “unfortunate incident” that took place at New Wokha Village on February 9 night, in which a house belonging to one Khyolamo Humtsoe was burnt.
“We feel that violence will not solve any problem,” the two organizations stated in a joint statement, while reminding of their “precautionary order” issued in 2017. “However, some miscreants are always trying to create unwanted problems in Wokha Village area,” lamented the statement from WVYO president, Myanthung Humtsoe and WVSU president, Echungthung Murry.
WVYO and WVSU expressed “deep pain and sadness over the fire incident at New Wokha Village in particular and all poll related violence in Wokha district in general.”
Meanwhile, the statement informed that around 8:00 pm a government registered vehicle (Bolero) was intercepted at Don Bosco School road by some WVYO officials. “The Bolero driver along with the vehicle was caught only after a pistol was fired from that vehicle. The shot was reportedly fired at a gypsy belonging to the secretary of Wokha Village Council from behind while he was proceeding towards Wokha Village,” it stated.
Informing that the incident was immediately reported to the Wokha Police, it further alleged that the police found some explosives and several capsule of banned spasmo proxyvon inside the Bolero. The driver was escorted to the Police Station for interrogation and further information is awaited from the Police in this regard, it added.
“While condemning these act, we are also anxious that Wokha Town being the headquarter of the Lothas and especially during the elections, all the candidates and voters from the four constituencies of Wokha district are stationed here,” the statement read.
“As a result of this, election related violence and incidents have been reported in different places during every election thereby giving the district administration and police force sleepless nights also leaving the town extremely tense before going for polls.”
In this connection, WVYO and WVSU urged all villages, colonies and constituencies under Wokha supporting different parties/candidates to extend cooperation to the law enforcing agencies and exercise utmost restraint to ensure peaceful atmosphere throughout the elections.
Further, the organizations warned “those individuals who impersonate as IR (NAP) personnel and creating problems in and around Wokha Village.”
