The XI Brothers Chukitong today clinched a resounding 5-1 triumph over Friends Club, securing the championship title in the 13th edition of the Lotha Football Championship (LFC) final held at Wokha Public Ground.

In the final, XI Brothers made the most of their opportunities, whereas Friends Club faced difficulties converting chances into goals, ultimately leading to the match tilting in favor of the former.

Meanwhile, Zuben Kikon of Friends Club was awarded the Player of the Tournament, and Jonjibemo Lapon of Titans XI was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

XI Brothers’ Saronbemo Z Shitiri was awarded the Best Defender, while Friends Club’s Renjamo was declared the Best Midfielder of the championship. 

The highest scorer of the championship was Mhonthung Ngullie of XI Brothers.

Earlier, gracing the closing ceremony as the special guest, Secretary Youth Resource and Sports, Anthony Ngullie, expressed regret over the untoward incident that occurred on the field but also commended the positive gestures of the Niro Range Sports Association and Englan Range Sports Association. 

Emphasising Wokha's sports potential, he urged community support and said that the State is also coming up with the new Sports Policy, offering job opportunities for excellence, among others. 

Ngullie also encouraged the players to strive for improvement, enthusiasm, and fair play. He assured to organise a meeting between the Wokha District Football Association and the department to tackle the issue of the poor quality of the football ground.

The LFC, which commenced on January 16, was organised by the Wokha District Football Association.  The champion and the runners-up received cash prize of Rs 1,20,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively, in addition to medals and certificates. The two semi-finalists who did not advance received Rs. 15,000 each.
