Xiaomi to debut India laptop market with Mi Notebook on June 11

Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi is coming with its first laptop to India. The company is all set to launch Mi Notebook in India on June 11, taking on directly the existing laptop giants such as Apple, Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

 

On Thursday, the company revealed through a Twitter post that Mi Notebook will offer 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. The video showed a clock ticking and completes 12 hours to suggest that the battery life of the notebook on a single charge. It may be noted that the existing Apple and Dell laptops already have 12-hour battery life. So this specification is not new for the laptop users, who look for new and advanced features along with value for money. But it would be interesting to see if Xiaomi offers 12-hour battery life at a lesser price than Apple and Dell.


Three days back, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain shared a video on Twitter to focus on the laptop’s very slim bezels called Horizon Display. The notebook offers a high screen-to-body ratio. Mi Notebook will also have a full HD display and will come with Intel's Core i7 processor.


Xiaomi has not revealed any more specifications about the new laptop. It has also not confirmed if the Mi Notebook will be an entirely new laptop or a rebranded version of one of Xiaomi’s existing laptops.

 

Unlike its smartphones, with its first laptop in India, Xiaomi will target the premium segment of notebooks. In an interview with the media, Xiaomi’s Chief Business Officer Raghu Reddy said that initially, the company will not bring cheap laptops to the Indian market. With the Mi Notebook series, the company will target power users, students, office goers, gamer, and those who look for a perfect device for entertainment.

 

The India launch event will livestream on the company’s social media platforms and Mi.com at 12 noon (IST) on June 11.

 

In China, Xiaomi sells laptops under the brands Mi and Redmi. The RedmiBook 13 is the newest laptop from the company in its home country. It features a 13.3-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Its bezel surrounding the display is as thin as 4.65mm with a screen-to-body ratio of 89 per cent.
