
Wokha, July 11 (DIPR): State level advocacy on World Population Day, launching of Family Planning Health Mela Fortnight and Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight was held on July 11 at Tiyi Town Hall, Wokha with Minister for Home, Y. Patton as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Patton said the alarming growth of population in India has become a concern for citizens of the country, particularly the creamy layers, including the government agencies. This calls for concerted effort from all sections of society, he said, adding it is the responsibility of all development departments, ministries, NGOs and civil societies and not only the Health & Family Welfare department alone to actively partake in playing a vital role to contain the abnormal population growth.
The Home Minister also said Government of India has adopted numerous measures to check the ever increasing population growth. The government has introduced several schemes under family planning programs and all these have been disseminated to the States and made operational since May 2012, he added. He informed that under these measures, the government has given more emphasis on spacing methods, quality care in family planning services by establishing quality assurance committees at the State and district levels.
Patton urged all the developmental departments to work in cohesion towards improving the quality of life of the people through proper dissemination of information, education and communication which must be area-specific, need based and community oriented. Population stabilization campaign, he said, should be made “People’s Programme” by involving local leaders, NGOs, civil society and religious leaders, schools, colleges and teachers through print and electronic media and all other means of advertisements and communication in creative and innovative methods.
Dr. Noune, O&G spoke on methods of Family Planning, while Dr. Khriemenuo, Pediatrician highlighted on control of diarrhoea. Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Zathung DPO (RCH/UIP). The programme was chaired by Dr. Robin Mozhui, MS District Hospital Wokha while vote of thanks was proposed by Deputy CMO, Dr. Tumchobeni.
‘Take Responsibility, Make Plans’: Population Stabilization Fortnight
Kohima, July 11 (MExN): Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kohima along with District Health Society, Department of Health & Family Welfare, NHM observed World Population Day and Population Stabilization Fortnight under the slogan “Take Responsibility, Make Plans” (Zimmedari Nibhao, Plan Banao) at the CMO’s conference hall here on July 11.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Avino Metha, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kohima. The technical session was conducted by Dr. Avile Zao, DPO (RCH-UIP), where she gave a presentation on World Population Day & Population Stabilization Fortnight.
A press release from CMO, Kohima informed that the Population Stabilization Fortnight, from July 11 to 24, will be called Family Health Mela and observed under the theme “Take Responsibility, Make Plans”.
During the fortnight, advocacy and awareness campaigns will be carried out in all the blocks and villages under Kohima district. The campaigns will include exhibition of Family Planning methods, counseling of clients on the basket of choices, motivation of eligible couples for availing Family Planning services, and awareness on HIV/AIDS. During the ongoing advocacy, following messages should reach the people as part of awareness generation: delaying age at marriage, healthy spacing at birth, post partum family planning, male participation in family planning, post abortion family planning, the release said.
Meanwhile, Focus Group Discussion will be carried out in selected health units to observe the fortnight and Basket of Family Planning Services, including distribution of OCP & condoms, IUCD INSERT IGNOREion, Tubectomy & Vasectomy, pamphlets, leaflets and putting up of banners and posters at prominent places will be done in line with New Family Planning Media Campaign.
