DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (MExN): The Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako today expressed dismay over the arrest of six villagers on February 23, suspected to be involved in the killing of seven of a family at Zangrü Village, killed on February 8. The student body said the arrests carried out by IRB personnel on the directives of the SDO (Civil), Kiphire was “without any proof and evidence but basing on mere hearsay. Moreover, the six were badly manhandled and subsequently brought to Dimapur for interrogation, which actually is legally wrong.”
In a letter addressed to Nagaland Commissioner TN Mannen, the YAA also said it was shocked over the move of calling for an economic blockade by the Kiphire GBs Association which would hinder the plying of vehicles towards Pungro Town.
The students said the deaths of the seven at Zangrü Village were caused perhaps “due to the personal misunderstanding by the mob, thus nothing official and so also unwise and myopic, on the part of the GBs Association Kiphire Town, to aggravate it into a major issue.”
Reminding of the memorandum submitted to the Government which demands action against “Limithsong terrorist outfit” who killed ML Sangtam, an STF jawan, the YAA said it was not “concerned about the foolish act of any organizations/associations but express its resentment over step-motherly treatment meted out to Yimchungrü community by turning a deaf ear to our plea by not taking action against the assailant of late ML Sangtam, STF Jawan and on the contrary, reacting very instantly on the Zangrü village incident by harassing and torturing the innocent villagers which comparatively doesn’t have any authenticity and valid ground.”
It was further said that “utter violation” against the agreement between YTC and TTC had been committed. The YAA alleged that on February 22, the water source at Longtsongrü Village was damaged and a complaint was made to the Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire. On the same day, three granaries and thirteen huts were burnt down at the same village and the incident was reported to SDO (Civil) Pungro, the student body said and added that on February 29, the village was attacked at 7:12 pm by “Limithsong assisted by Kiusam Town public” who used “sophisticated weapons.”
As such, the YAA cautioned that it would not be held responsible for any “untoward follow-up consequences.”
