YAA to stop school admissions till teacher shortage addressed

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 19 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) has informed that it would not allow new admissions to schools under its jurisdiction until the required teachers are posted in the concerned schools.

A press release from the YAA informed that it has submitted a 14 days ultimatum to the School Education Department to address the shortage of teachers in Yimkhiung jurisdiction. It informed that the YAA submitted two representations to the department apprising it of the teacher shortage; one on June 30, 2023 and another on August 22, 2023.

The YAA had pointed out that there is shortage of 64 Primary Teachers, 85 Language Teachers, 50 Undergraduate Hindi Teachers, 22Graduate English Teachers, 16 SS/General Teachers, 20 Mathematics Teachers; 18 Science Teachers and 5 Post Graduate Teachers.

It however lamented that the YAA has not received any “practical response” from the department. “The department's continuous default to address the aforesaid matter is nothing less than a deliberate attempt to annihilate the progress of schools while consequently jeopardizing the future and prospects of the students,” the YAA stated.

As such, the YAA directed all federating units to ensure that the admission process in schools within the purview of their respective union is totally restricted. “While it is hoped that the concerned department will resolve the shortage of teachers as demanded within the stipulated time given, it would be wiser on the part of the YAA and all its federating units to remain vigilant and be prepared for any eventuality,” it added.

Further, the YAA cautioned that any individual or group in any manner attempting to obstruct this endeavor for the welfare of students would be dealt with as per the law of the land.
