DIMAPUR, JANUARY 21 (MExN): The Shamator Town Students' Union (STSU), Pungro Town Students' Union (PTSU) and the Chessore Town Students' Union (CTSU) have supported the Yimkhiung Akherii Arihako’s (YAA) ultimatum served to Directorate of School Education to address teacher shortage.
A press release from the STSU said that government schools falling within the preview of the Shamator Town Students' Union have been facing a shortage of teachers for a long time which jeopardizing the career of the students, resulting in large number of dropouts.
It urged the department to fulfill the demands of the YAA, failing which the union will have no option but to totally restrict the admission process of all the government schools within its preview. It asked all heads of government schools to halt the admission process until the demand is fulfilled.
The PTSU also extended its adherence to the YAA directive to restrict the admission process of the current academic session until the aforesaid demand is fulfilled.
“All the heads of the institutions established within Pungro town should be cognizant that the admission process for the current academic session is kept in abeyance with immediate effect until necessary and any further intimation is made,” a press release from the PTSU stated. It further cautioned that any institution defaulting to this will face befitting actions.
The Chessore Town Students' Union (CTSU) while expressing support for the ultimatum said that the union is “appalled and disheartened at the utter lack of concern and empathy shown by the department towards the students community which is an abject show of contempt to the Freedom of Education enshrined in the Indian Constitution.”
While expressing hope that the concerned department would address the genuine demand of the YAA at the earliest, the union said it won't allow any govt schools and institutions under its jurisdiction to initiate admission processes until and unless the department fulfils the demand of the YAA.
