Free screening and vaccination of Hepatitis-B vaccine at CHC Yachem

Longleng, July 29 (MExN): The National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP), Longleng, observed World Hepatitis Day 2025 under the theme ‘Hepatitis: Let’s Break it Down’ at Yachem CHC on July 28. The programme was attended by healthcare workers, community leaders, and public, stated a press release received here. 

The event was chaired by Penny, Peer Educator of NVHCP Longleng and welcome address was delivered by Dr Lingshau James, Medical Officer in-charge of Yachem CHC.

The keynote address was given by Dr Temsu, District Programme Officer (DPO), who highlighted the importance of awareness, early detection, and prevention of Hepatitis. He said that “in India Hepatitis disease is increasing every year and it has become one of the most important causes of mortality rate in India, as a result the Ministry of health and family welfare have taken up this program as a special flagship national programme.”

Dr Temsu encouraged all the citizens for early screening of hepatitis and also highlighted about free testing and treatment being provided by the government. He stressed the need for community engagement and destigmatization of the disease to enhance health-seeking behaviour.

An interactive sharing and discussion session followed, allowing attendees to voice their thoughts and clarify doubts regarding Hepatitis and its impact on public health.
