The 12th annual meeting of the Yimchungrü Gazetted Officers’ Association (YGOA) was held on March 24 at Old Showuba village, Dimapur district.
Addressing the annual YGOA meeting, parliamentary secretary for Municipal Affairs and Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba, called upon the Yimchungrü gazetted officers to be role models in terms of work ethics and to be agents of change in the society.
The parliamentary secretary said sincerity, devotion, obedience, integrity, honesty and humility are some of the important qualities that every public servant should possess.
Tohanba said as public servants, gazetted officers should never exhibit haughtiness or arrogance while discharging their duties but try to gain the trust and respect of fellow officers and subordinates by way of practicing what one preaches.
In this way, the officers would be able to inspire co-fellow workers which in turn would allow the respective departments to deliver the goods for public welfare and overall development of the state.
The parliamentary secretary also called upon the Yimchungrü gazetted officers to play a pro-active role in maintaining inter-tribal harmony and to cultivate the art of working and living together.
Tohanba said the YGOA, which was formed in 1993, had remained defunct for some years due to various reasons. He said after YGOA was reorganized in 2014 at the Pungro session, the association had undertaken various activities including social welfare measures, humanitarian and charitable works and career guidance and counselling to encourage students. He also said YGOA has closely coordinated with other NGOs to promote better understanding among the Yimchungrü people and Nagas as a whole.
Dr. W Punsokiu, CMO Kiphire; K Janger, former NPSC member and president Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC), Keozhih, also delivered exhortations.
President YGOA, Murelim, delivered the welcome address and general secretary, YGOA, K Showuba, proposed vote of thanks. The programme started with invocation prayer by Rev B Tochumong. Athrong, EAC Wokha chaired the meeting.
