DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): The Yikhum Village Council (YVC) on behalf of the general public of Yikhum has strongly condemned the January 27 incident wherein a truck driver and his friend were shot at while unloading some goods at Doyang, Wokha.
A press release issued by YVC chairman Robin Kithan, assistant Head GB, Mhonlumo Odyuo and secretary, Chumbemo Odyuo alleged that one Mhabemo Mozhui, said to be a cadre of the NSCN (IM), attempted murder on a truck driver Nyanbemo Kithan and his friend Wochothung Odyuo without any reason by firing at them.
The council said Wochothung Odyuo was hit on the mouth by a bullet and was undergoing medical treatment at a hospital after the accused pulled out a gun and fired at the driver. The council further alleged that the accused and his associate continued to chase the victims who however managed to escape. Condemning the incident, the council said this was not the first instance in which the accused in question had attempted life and manhandled many innocent law abiding citizens of Yikhum Village without any rhyme or reason.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the Yikhum Village Council in its emergency general public meeting held on January 28 resolved that an FIR would be immediately lodged and demanded that the law enforcing agency to arrest the accused and his associate within 48 hours from the time and date of lodging the complaint.
It also demanded that the state government bear the medical expenses of the victim. In the event of the failure to nab the culprit at the stipulated time, the council cautioned that the case would be pursued by the people of Yikhum.
The council has also demanded immediate termination of the culprit from active service of the NSCN (IM) and at the same time initiate necessary action against him.
