Yimchunger leaders released

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The president and joint secretary of the Yimchunger Tribal Council were released at Dimapur today on “extraordinary” bail, sources said. More than 1000 people reportedly received the tribal leaders after they were released. Sources said the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, the Yimchunger Tribal Council and the Yimchunger Students’ Union received the tribal leaders.

The release of M Thesong, the president of the YTC, and T Shelimthong, the joint secretary of the body, has brought some “relief” to members of the community but the issue is not forgotten as “this is the first time that a tribal president has been arrested,” a reliable source said. “The government has been ignoring our plea; the government should be balanced.”
