Yimchungrü decries attempts to divide

Dimapur, October 19 (MExN):  Stating  to have upheld  in good faith the fundamental rights of all citizens and the right for self-determination, Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) today denounced any attempt to disintegrate Yimchungru areas  into  regions.

A statement was received from the YTC today: “Fragmentation, subjugation, imposition and divide-and-rule policy is alien to Naga tribe, tradition, culture and therefore, the Yimchungrü Tribal Council on behalf of the entire Yimchungrü public hereby  declare that the people’s demand is for Yimchungrü Saramati region (YSR) within the Yimchungrü jurisdiction and not as Yimchungru region (for Shamator, Chessor areas) and Saramati region (for Chirr, Makory, Lungphur, Tikhir and Para tribe in Pungro area).”

The YTC said the declaration and ‘mobilization of Saramati region’ in Pungro area is imposition on the will of the public, subjugation and apathy to the people’s wish, demand and rights. “Under no circumstances the Yimchungrü  tribe shall tolerate decimation of the Yimchungrü tribe/area for some vested interests and for petty personal gain.

Yimchungrü tribe is recognized Naga tribe as any other Naga tribes with a population of more than lakhs and with more than 84 villages from Saramati (Pungro area) to Herupong (Tuensang and Dimapur districts).

The attempts are to divide and fragment the Yimchungrü areas vis-à-vis “Saramati Region and Yimchungru region (Pungro and Shamator/Chessor respectively) because of some vested interested nation worker/s to advance their personal gain under the pretext of nation building…” This attempt by the “nation workers” is condemnable by all, the council said.

The YTC explained that the Chirr, Makory, Longphur, Tikhir, Phunung and Langa are only dialects and the various “dialectical speaking people” merged to call themselves as ‘Yimchunger.’ The demand of the people is to remain as Yimchungrü tribe and strongly object to the fragmentation of the Yimchungrü area, the YTC said. They strongly oppose the “imposition of Saramati region in Pungro area,” the YTC stated.

The Yimchungrü Tribal Council expressed strong support to the ‘wise and bold decision’ of the GBs’ union and Public Forum of Pungro Sub-Division objecting to the creation of “Saramati region.” The council appeals to what was stated as “rank and files in the people’s government” to listen to the public’s decision to remain as one-tribe under one region (Yimchungrü Saramati region, Yimchungrü region) and not to fragment the Yimchungrü area because of some vested interested individuals.
