Yimkhiung and Zeliang tribe friendship meet propose peace

Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): Yimkhiung and Zeliang tribes held a historic friendship meet on December 13 at Jalukie Town with an aim to have optimistic, compassionate and empathetic relationship.

The meet which was attended by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang, MLA Namri Nchang, Advisor Keoshu Yimkiung, and Advisor Keosiumew, Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) and Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) members, made a declaration to unite as one to promote and initiate peace as to unite the Nagas; to protect each other tribal integrity and its subject in all fronts through Naga customary practices and to have friendship meet every three years to be hosted in alternative place.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang lauded the two tribes for the friendship meet. Stating that the Naga Society is now sharply fragmented, he emphasised on need to rebuilt Naga unity through such friendship meet amongst different tribes. 

Zeliang asserted that the bone of contention and tribal disunity had become a stumbling block to Naga progress, adding that only unity and cordial relationship amongst the tribes of Nagaland will strengthen the Nagas economically, socially and politically.

At the same time, he said that Yimkhiung and Zeliang tribes share the similar problem and condition-politically, socially, economically and geographically, and expressed hope that the friendship meet will help both tribes to  grow together.

Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor, Keosiumew, Advisor, Namri Nchang, MLA, NZPO and YTC officials also spoke on the occasion.
