The indefinite sit-in protest spearheaded by NPF Central Youth Wing entered 10th day here today. It will resume on Monday (November 6), the party announced.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Yitachu said much has been spoken over the ten days and the information has gone to every nook and corner of the state. The dharna has been projecting the rights and cause to the people as “unconstitutional activities” have started in Nagaland, he maintained.

Recalling the sequence of the political crisis, Yitachu said, there was a sitting Chief Minister, Dr. Shürhozelie, with 48 legislators from NPF. Hence, the issue of legislature leader was required to be resolved within the party if at all the Chief Minister had to be replaced. But no such meeting took place, he stated, alleging the Governor was never present in station.

Yitachu recounted that on July 7, a group of NPF legislators went to Kaziranga and wrote a letter to the Governor stating they have 32 members so they want to change the leader of the NPF Legislature Party and they should take over the Chief Minister.

“This should be first in the party, not with Governor,” Yitachu said. He claimed the Governor was never in Nagaland, and while out of station he started writing letter to the Chief Minister to seek confidence motion.

“The Governor knew that he is going to do certain unconstitutional things. Therefore, not staying in Kohima, staying in Itanagar, Guwahati, Delhi and he was telling the Chief Minister of Nagaland to seek confidence motion and forcing the Speaker to call the Assembly,” Yitachu alleged.

Finally, when the Governor came to Nagaland, the MLA said, along with Dr. Shürhozelie they met the Governor and conveyed that the government was functioning, and it was an internal party matter and will be resolved within the NPF.

According to Yitachu, the Governor told them to resolve within the party since it was internal party matter.

“But once he was out from this place, he kept on saying that assembly should be called, confidence motion should be taken,” Yitachu said, questioning, “How can he (Governor) do all these double standard kind of thing?”

He further alleged that when TR Zeliang was asked to come and take over the reign, he refused to take from NPF, but to take from the Governor.

“Where is the democratic practices in India that any party or any group of legislators without party directly going to the Governor and taking over the Government?” Yitachu asked.

Imlibenla Wati, youth ambassador, NPF stated she views the present political crisis with heavy heart, but expressed belief that “there is sunrise after every storm.” The crisis, she said, arose “just because of some political leaders who could not stick to the party principle and have deceived us.”   Imlibenla asked the party dissidents what they could gain by going against the party principle or what they hope to gain by betraying and deceiving party leader.

She congratulated the NPF Central Youth Wing for “standing firm and behind the leaders and showing and proving themselves as pillar of NPF.”

She also lauded NPF Central leaders for keeping their trust in the leadership of Dr. Shürhozelie and also working hard and sincerely to make the party stronger.

Ex-MLA Asu Keyho and Anungba Imsong, general secretary NPF Central office also addressed the gathering.
