A five day long Yoga orientation-cum-training for Physical Education Teachers (PETs) under Kohima district got underway here today at Ura Academy Hall under the aegis of Directorate of School Education.
Exhorting the trainees, RMSA mission director Limawapang Aier said this training programme is the first of its kind in Nagaland and similar training for second batch will be notified soon. He asked the PETs to learn well and propagate the same in their respective schools. He said they will become Training of Trainers (ToT) after the completion of the training. Aeir maintained that Yoga is beneficial for health and branded it as a good form of exercise.
The inaugural function was chaired by I. Temjen Ao, assistant director (PE) while T. Lipok Jamir, deputy director (PE) delivered welcome address. This training programme, with Kelhouzasei Lawrence as instructor, will go on till March 18.
Sources said that Yoga is one of the subjects along with physical and health education and is also included as part of physical activity in all the schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) across the country.
Yoga is also included as one of the units under physical education curriculum at the senior secondary level. Moreover, University Grants Commission(UGC) has informed that Yoga has been included in the modules on the health, nutrition, fitness and general well being in all courses at Under graduate and Post graduate level while framing the revised XII Plan guidelines on the scheme of development of sports infrastructure and equipment in universities and colleges.
