Your Tooth is as precious as Gold!

In my daily practice, I often come across patients that visit me with anxiety and extreme acute pain and the only treatment they want is removal of the tooth immediately.  When a patient is in such a condition, it’s always difficult to make them understand and explain to them how precious losing one’s tooth is.

In today’s world with advanced technologies, saving a tooth is indeed possible and extracting the teeth is not the first option. Once a tooth is extracted the core foundation of the alignment of teeth is affected. Once a tooth is removed, the remaining tooth has to bear the force of the missing extracted tooth and in the long will definitely lead to multiply problems. Never choose extraction because you think it will be cheaper and quicker.  When a natural tooth is extracted, it must be replaced with an artificial tooth to prevent other teeth from shifting, and to prevent future dental problems. The cost of a denture, bridge or implant, plus the extraction, often is higher than the cost of a root canal procedure that would save the tooth for years to come.

Also, never choose extraction because you think root canal treatment will be painful. Modern techniques and effective anaesthesia make root canal treatment virtually painless. In fact, discomfort after the procedure is generally greater with a tooth extraction. Patients who have experienced root canal treatment are six times more likely to describe it as “painless” .If one is given a choice between root canal treatments or a tooth extraction, always choose root canal treatment. There are many advantages to saving your natural tooth. Chewing efficiency is better; one will have normal biting force, so you can continue to eat your favourite foods and it can help digest it properly through your body system. It also maintains a natural appearance. It also limits the need for more costly, ongoing dental work. Saving a natural tooth through endodontic treatment should always be the first choice for the best health, comfort and cosmetic results. Of course, there are cases where the last option is to extract the tooth but with latest equipments and technologies saving a tooth is a possibility in almost all the cases. Even if extraction is the last option, one has to replace the missing tooth after the wounds are healed to prevent further damage.

With the ongoing generation of mindsets where it’s important to look good and to have a great smile, one must  always educate oneself  on how to maintain ones oral hygiene and also to know and learn that your dentist have the best advice for your teeth. Before any procedure is done it’s important to discuss with the dentist in detail about the procedure, so one has to know and be comfortable before any treatment is started and done. Our whole well being depends upon the food that we eat. So savings ones tooth is very important as one needs healthy teeth to chew and digest your food daily for a healthier you.
