Longleng, April 6 (MExN): The second edition of the Youth Cultural Fest was organised by the Longleng Town Students’ Union under the theme “Know Thy Roots” on April 2 at the Public Ground, Longleng.
The event featured competitions among youth from 11 town wards, including cultural dances, folklore performances, war cries, a fat-eating competition and other traditional activities.
The programme began with traditional performances and the beating of the log drum by Yongnyah Hongnyü Union, Longleng.
EAC Imkongnukla Ao, the special guest, spoke on the importance of skill development and urged the youth to make use of available opportunities. She stressed the need for discipline, hard work and self-sustenance, and called on young people to remain connected to their cultural roots.
She said the event served as a platform for cultural preservation and encouraged unity, urging the youth to promote their language and avoid divisions based on tribe.
Major Shubham Pakhare of the 12th Assam Rifles, attending the closing ceremony as valedictory guest, encouraged the youth to uphold discipline, unity and dedication.
The organisers and participants were appreciated for their efforts, and the event was described as reinforcing tradition, unity and community spirit.
Shamkang ward emerged as the overall champion of the fest.
