Youth held with drugs worth Rs 5.41 crore in Manipur

A 21-year-old youth was arrested on Wednesday with contraband drugs – WY tablet and Heroin (No.4) – valued over Rs 5.41 crore in the international market in Manipur.

 

The seized contraband drugs were 40,000 pieces of Amphetamine tablets marked as “WY” and 708 gram of heroin power packed in 59 soap cases.

 

The arrested youth has been identified as one Md Illyas Khan (21), son of Md Ashraf Ali of Sangaiyumpham, of Thoubal district, Manipur.

 

Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Division, Imphal arrested the youth along with the recovery of the contraband drugs during an operation at Wangbal Langkhongpat along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102. A four-wheeler (Astar car) carrying the contraband drug was also seized by the authority of the Imphal custom division.

 

Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Division, Imphal led by the superintendent of the unit effected the seizure during the operation based on specific information, a press release of the division signed by assistant commissioner Modoli Daso said.

 

The press release alleged that the contraband drugs was about to deliver by the arrested youth to some persons whose identities are yet to be established.

 

The total valued of the seized items is estimated at Rs 5,47,60,000 in the international market while the seized Astar car he used to transport the contraband items is estimated at Rs 2,00,000, the press note added.

 

A case has been registered under NDPS and investigation has been initiated to nab other persons involved in the drug smuggling, the press release further added.

 

In yet another contraband drug seizure incident, troops of Assam Rifles recovered Heroin (No. 4) worth more than Rs 28 lakh in the international market during a check at its vehicle check post at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district along NH-102.

 

The troops detected heroin weighing approximately 0.720 kg valued at more than Rs 28 lakh during a check at a vehicle driven by one Laishram Krishanamani (43) of Wangoi in Imphal West district on November 24.

 

The detainee along with the recovered items has been handed over to Moreh police station for further investigation, a press release of the PIB(Defence Wing), Imphal said on Wednesday.
