TUENSANG, FEBRUARY 17 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tuensang (KVK) conducted its 2nd phase Orientation cum Input distribution program for rural youth under the ‘Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture’ (ARYA) project in Large Cardamom Enterprise on February 17.


Imnuksungba, Horticulture Officer, Tuensang who is also a member of District ARYA Committee was the special Guest.


Dr. Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Tuensang highlighted the objectives of ARYA Project. He stressed that the importance of youth in agriculture is not just a choice for few but rather a necessity for food security and employment in the district. The ARYA project is an opportunity for youth to showcase their creativity through farming, he stated. 


The special guest in his speech deliberated on the present scenario of youth in agriculture in respect to Nagaland. He stressed that the youths of the district can drive the existing agriculture to technology driven agriculture which is the only way to enhance, uplift and improve the economy of the state and district in particular. For sustainable production and better farm income, he encouraged the youth to adopt scientific cultivation practices.  Highlighting various schemes of the Agri & Allied departments, he also encouraged the youth to avail schemes and programmes which can serve as a catalyst in their farming project.


Chairman, Kuthur village Council who also attended the programme thanked the project implementing agency and encouraged the youth to make the best use of the project.


Agricultural tools and implements were also distributed to the beneficiaries as part of the ARYA project component. 


In the technical session Tokiho Achumi, Assistant Chief Technical Officer cum Nodal Officer of ARYA project trained the beneficiaries on ‘Care and Management of Large Cardamom plantation’.
