Youthnet’s study casts doubt on ITFT’s reliability

DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): YouthNet, which was commissioned to do a review/assessment study of Youth employment under the CM Corpus Fund-ITFT programme, have pointed out major deficiencies in the institution where hundreds of Naga students are ‘studying’.

The study, spanning over major 12 states/metros where ITFT students are instated, pointed out wide-ranging hardships faced by the students from racial discrimination to training from under-qualified /inexperienced faculty, infrastructural discrepancies to inadequate pay packages, poor curriculum to inadequate infrastructure, insufficient training period before placements, poor screening programs etc. Many students also cast doubts whether or not ITFT is genuinely a recognized, accredited institution.

The study observed that some faculty member possess very little experience while some had the same education qualification as the trainees. The course curriculum was given thumbs down. There was no specialized course or training designed particularly for the programme. The infrastructure in the Institute were also not adequate and with limited space. The trainees complained that they were doubtful that it is a recognized institution or an institute with good standing as many people in Chandigarh itself were not aware of ITFT.

Another case for serious concern is that Naga youths are discriminated because of being from the Northeast. The discriminations were felt more for youths living in Metro cities, who are employed in retail sectors and call centers. This was in the form of racial discrimination. This discrimination (59%) came from clients and customers and some from co-workers. Interestingly, though males said they are not discriminated, their female colleagues said that Northeastern men are discriminated. 27% respondents agreed that they are discriminated by clients/customers, 32% by co-workers while 41 said no.
