Youths uphold hunting and fishing ban in Peren dist

Peren, October 4 (MExN): In its effort to protect flora and fauna, six villages youth organization under Peren District held a consultative meeting on September 24 at Peren Town hosted by Peren Youth Federation reaffirm to ban hunting, fishing and extraction of natural resources within its own village jurisdiction.  

The six youth organizations include Peren Youth Federation, Peletkie, Jalukie, Tamphung, Puilwa, Mpai Youth Association. They have acknowledged that majority of the villages solely depends on forest and its resources for their livelihood but saddened that rampant encroachment and destruction of natural habitats like cutting of trees, hunting, fishing with poison and other chemicals, extraction of natural resources for commercial purpose mostly from outside the village has caused imbalance and insecurity to the environment. In its joint statement, the six villages youth organization sternly warns that any individual or group found violating the ban order shall be penalized heavily and dealt with as per the resolution of its own village youth organization. Any untoward incidence, the village youth shall not be held responsible. The next consultative meeting is scheduled to be held tentatively in the month of March 2017.
