YSU 4th general conference underway at Yachem

Longleng, December 17 (MExN): The 4th General Conference 2025 of the Yachem Students’ Union (YSU) in coinciding with its 67th session commenced at Yachem village in Longleng district under the theme “Bridging the Gap” (Shingkung Shenteipü).

Marking the start of the conference on December 17, Y Sangla Phom, president, Yachem Anüti Lunglak flagged off an Open Marathon Race under the theme “Own Your Story.”

The conference featured Y Nuklu Phom, PhD, Chairman and Team Leader, LEMSACHENLOK, Longleng, as the speaker while W Manpai Phom, NCS, Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, attended as the Guest Speaker.

Addressing the gathering, W Manpai Phom described the session theme “Bridging the Gap” as highly relevant in the present era. He urged upon the students to view gaps positively as indicators of development and progress, and emphasised the responsibility of students in bridging these gaps through discipline, academic excellence, and constructive engagement.

He described Yachem village as a model village within the Phom community and acknowledged its commendable performance in the education sector, particularly among government schools.

Stressing the importance of a strong foundation at the primary and middle school levels, he appreciated the collective efforts of the village council, elders, students’ organisations, women bodies, church leaders, teachers, and parents in strengthening the education system.

He further encouraged students to excel academically and bring laurels to the village, community and the district.

The DC Longleng cautioned youths against the negative impact of excessive use of social media and digital gadgets, advising them to engage in purposeful activities.

He emphasised the need for inclusive and holistic development, calling for cooperation among village institutions.

He also encouraged the formation of sports associations and NGOs and urged youths to explore entrepreneurship, envisioning Longleng district as an emerging economic hub.

He also called for effective implementation of the government schemes through collective effort.

Y Isakumba, Chairman, Yachem Council also exhorted the gathering.

The programme was chaired by C Jorly Phom, Women Affairs Secretary, YSU while Rev TI Lakba, Pastor, NBA invoked God’s blessings. L Imtinükshi Phom, Convenor, Organising Committee delivered welcome address. The session also witnessed special performance by Rising Club, special song by Büdenlongli N Phom and folk song by Yaongyimchen Students’ Union.

The programme was followed by sports activities, which will continue till December 20.
