KOHIMA, JULY 13 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) felicitated Yimso Yimchunger, newly appointed Chairman of the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (NBOCWWB), at the Commissioner’s Guest House on July 11.
The programme was attended by Advisors S. Kiusumew, Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Relief and Rehabilitation; S. Keoshu, Youth Resources & Sports; and Shihlemthong, Advisor YTC.
Addressing the gathering, Yimchunger thanked the state government for entrusting him with the responsibility, stating that his focus would be on labour welfare, especially for unregistered workers. He announced the expansion of scholarship coverage from classes 8–10 to higher classes, allowing two children per registered member to benefit.
The one-time annual grant for registered beneficiaries has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, while medical assistance has been restructured as "loss of earning compensation," providing up to Rs 30,000 per financial year, he said.
NBOCWWB CEO Chubayanger noted the board had functioned without a chairman for over two years and expressed optimism with Yimchunger’s appointment. He said the board would focus more on registration, training, and benefits for workers from eastern Nagaland, and announced plans to introduce gratuity payments for beneficiaries upon reaching 60 years, while clarifying that monthly pensions were not feasible.
