DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10 (MExN): Lt General Niki Sumi of the Yung Aung led NSCN (K) today appealed to the National League for Democracy (NLD) Government in Myamnar to “come to their senses” and “follow policies of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and stop military operations.”
A press statement from the Lt General Niki Sumi further termed the military presence of the Indian Army in Nagaland as “unreasonable.”
It stated that “Nagas were enjoying peace and development when the military backed USDP was in power.” It however noted that the present Government of Myanmar is “trying to suppress the popular freedom struggle of the NSCN.”
The statement recalled that that on January 29 and May 15, the NLD government launched military operations against NSCN, and termed this as “violation of the cessation of hostilities agreement between the NSCN and the USDP government.” It further said that the present government is continuing to provoke and launch military action on Nagas and others.
“Some signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) have already withdrawn from their agreement. The motive behind the aggressive policy of the NLD is unknown. It seems that they are trying to garner political benefit from it. But it will not be sensible for all since it is against peaceful solution of conflicts,” it added.
The statement further informed that the GPRN/NSCN is “maintaining utmost restraint and sincerity and continues to observe and respect the agreement.”
It further stated that likewise, the Government of India is “also trying to annihilate the freedom movement of the Nagas.” The statement reminded the GoI and its military to respect the historical reality of the Nagas.
“The Nagas are not against India. But the Nagas and Indians have different history and culture. So the vast Indian military presence in Nagaland is unreasonable and unacceptable for political reasons of Nagas. If any untoward incident happens in Naga inhabited area the Indian Army will solely be held responsible,” the statement read.
It meanwhile claimed that “revolutionary organizations of our region are keeping our vigour to liberate WESEA region,” and expressed confidence by stating: “we are sure that we will be able to achieve our long cherished goals freedom.”
