Yung Aung-led NSCN-K opposes Myanmar-NSCN-Angmai ceasefire

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): The Yung Aung-led NSCN-K has expressed opposition to the reported plans for a ceasefire agreement between Myanmar authorities and the ‘proscribed NSCN-Angmai group.’

In a MIP statement, Yung Aung-led NSCN-K questioned the legitimacy of any agreements that may arise from these discussions, asserting that the NSCN-Angmai group lacks a political agenda and does not represent the aspirations of the Naga people. It emphasized that any agreement would only reflect the interests of the involved parties and not the broader political position of the Naga community.

“We strongly question Myanmar authority's nexus with this group as it amount to official recognition and legitimization of an expelled group that poses a serious threat to the stability and unity of the eastern Nagas. This group is here to hoodwink and dilute the area and rob the bread and butter of the Naga public,” the MIP statement read.

The Yung Aung-led NSCN-K cautioned that if Myanmar were to adopt India's divisive approach towards the Naga people, it would be a significant misstep. It urged the Myanmar authorities to avoid using NSCN-Angmai as a tool that could destabilize the political and security environment in the region.

Additionally, Yung Aung-led NSCN-K advised against involving the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga people in the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, highlighting their commitment to neutrality since the conflict began.
