Wokha, February 22 (MExN): Apropos to the news item published in the local dallies on February 17, relating to the alleged life bid on BJP candidate, the Yimpang Village Council (YVC) has issued a clarification stating that on February 17, 2018 Mmhonlumo Kikon, the BJP Candidate for 40 Bhandari A/C and his entourage came to Yimpang Village.
In a clarification note, Yimpang Village Head GB Nribemo Yanthan and Yimpang Village Council Chairman N. Zubemo Ezung alleged that having learnt the intention of the entourage to carry out election related activity in the village, the Village Council conveyed to the said candidate to hold a public meeting if he so desires. “However, he was impressed upon not to go for house to house canvassing sensing possibilities of untoward consequences. This, the YVC has requested in good spirit to protect the interest of the Village and also to uphold the call for conduct of Clean Election,” the Council stated. Giving further account of the event, the YVC said that “te said candidate, turning a deaf ear to the plea of the YVC set out for house to house canvassing, which was not taken well by the villagers, who insisted that the candidate stop the house to house canvassing activity. “This was reacted by the entourage of the said candidate in a violent manner to the extent of assaulting some youth members of the village, which led to commotion. In the melee, Mmhonlumo Kikon and his entourage left the scene firing several rounds of gun shots,” it stated.
The YVC clarifed that “no sort of ambush took place anywhere within the jurisdiction of Yimpang village, during the visit of the said BJP Candidate and his entourage, and therefore the assertion that “the candidate narrowly escaped the ambush,” was totally vague and unfounded.”
In this regard, the Yimpang Village Council hold in contempt, the activities of the said BJP Candidate and his entourage for tarnishing the good image of the Village by creating unwanted situation, and therefore, demands an apology from the said BJP candidate and further urge him to withdraw the FIR at Bhandari Police Station, so as to clear the air and avoid any undue eventualities in the days to come, particularly, during the forthcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election, 2018.
