YWCA Dimapur carries out various activities

Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): The Dimapur chapter of Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) will participate as delegates in the 30th National Convention of YWCA India scheduled to be held from February 11 to 14 in Goa under the theme ‘Women against Violence.’ They will also perform as choir at the convention.  

The YWCA Dimapur was started on April 26, 2006 as GIF with its office at Half Nagarjan. It was accredited on February 7, 2010 at Puri, Odisha and was fully affiliated in the year 2014 at Kumarakom, Kerala, informed a press release from the chapter. The age range of the membership has been divided into youth from 18 to 30 years of age and adults from 30 to 65 years of age. At present, Watila P Belho leads the chapter as the president.

It was informed that till date, YWCA Dimapur has carried out various activities, which include Go-Green campaign, poster campaign highlighting the pathetic road condition in and around Dimapur, promoting awareness about HIV/AIDS among the youths through a poster campaign. To sensitize about HIV, YWCA Dimapur also made a short film titled, ‘A Story of a Girl- a flower that withered before its time,’ and telecasted it in collaboration with the Global Chapter, a local cable network. Its members have also participated in numerous conferences and seminars, the release said.  

Now and then, the organization engages in fundraising activities too to generate money for its sustainability as well as to help out in other charitable causes, it added.

The release mentioned that YWCA’s vision is to empower women at all levels to struggle for justice, irrespective of caste, class or religion and its mission is to act as an advocate for young women’s leadership working for peace, justice, human rights and sustainable development, both on a grassroots and global scale.
