Dimapur, November 19 (MexN): Zakiesato Memorial Higher Secondary School (ZMHSS) in Dimapur celebrated Parents’ Day, which was graced by R Amongla Jamir, Deputy District Education Office (DDEO) as chief guest and Sivi Angami as guest of honour on November 18.
Lauding the school for producing excellent results in the past, the chief guest said the school should strive to provide higher education and also open science stream in the higher secondary level and later think of upgrading to a college.
Comparing the education level in government and private schools, she pointed out that most government schools have been facing problems of low enrolment. However, she expressed optimism that with the change in government’s education policy, things would change. She also acknowledged that private schools are models because of dedication of teachers and parents towards the students.
The DDEO was all praise for ZMHSS for its active participation in all kinds of events conducted by her office, be it Republic Day or Independence Day programmes and other co-curricular activities, according to a press release. She appealed to the parents to continue to extend their support to the school and also encourage their children to dedicate themselves in their studies.
Coordinator of the school, Joyson Shimray spoke about the celebration of Parent’s Day and its history, while also informing about the paradigm shift in the education sector. He informed that teaching has now become child-centric and more focused on the development of children through various activities unlike in the past where it was teacher centric or book centric.
N Yutsu, retired teacher, also spoke on behalf of the parents. The event was marked by cultural presentation by students of the school.
