Mother Zaputuou of Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home will now turn 88 on September 27. Presently, Kohima Orphanage houses 72 inmates in which seven are pursuing for higher studies both within and outside the state. Founded in 1973, Kohima Orphanage aims at securing a better life for orphans and enables them to become self-reliant through its work on education, vocational education, health and rehabilitation.

A recipient of many awards, Mother Zaputuou’s 88th birthday celebration has been scheduled at 2:00 PM at Kohima Orphanage premises on September 27.

Talking to The Morung Express on eve of her birthday, she wishes that a special day is set for orphans across the world.  She wishes the government to declare April 16 as Orphans’ Day in remembrance of all orphans, saying that everything has its commemoration day like Mothers’ Day, Tourism Day, Literacy Day, Earth Day, etc etc. but orphans do not have a special day globally till date.

Another wish on her birthday this year, she said, was the need for a permanent site of Kohima Orphanage. In this, she conveyed a request to the state government to look into it.
