Üzara Van Dhan Vikas Kendra under Pradhan Mantri Vandhan Yojana (PMVDY) scheme was launched today at Phusachodu village in Phek district.
It was formally launched by Kudecho Khamo, Advisor, CAWD & Taxes in the presence of Youth Resources & Sports Advisor, S Keoshu Yimchunger, Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) Chairman, Obed Quinker and NBHM Team Leader, Sentiwapang Aier.
Van Dhan scheme was launched by Government of India in 2016 to help tribal communities in India who depend on forest produce for their livelihood. This scheme aims to tap into traditional knowledge and skill sets of tribal by adding technology and IT to upgrade it at each stage and to convert the tribal wisdom into a viable economic activity. Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) Level Advocacy programme marked the launching of the scheme at Phusachodu. This PMVDY scheme is funded by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs and organised by NBHM.
Speaking on the occasion, Khamo said, “This is a very special gift for our village (Phusachodu).” He thanked the NBHM team for connecting Van Dhan scheme to the villagers. He informed that Uzara VDVK will be targeting 300 beneficiaries. “We will give our best for effective implementation of the scheme,” he said. He also challenged the people to put collective efforts and convert the scheme into result oriented base for sustainable livelihood.
In short speech, Keoshu said that the government has introduced numerous schemes to uplift the livelihood of the people. He called upon the people to take advantage of the scheme and venture into large scale cash crop production.
Obed Quinker said that Van Dhan scheme is an alternative means of livelihood activities. He called upon the people to give sincere effort and implement the scheme in letter and spirit. He said that Van Dhan will be implemented across the state and hoped that it will bring positive impact to the people of the state.
Earlier, chairing the programme, NBHM Deputy Team Leader Er Khuvoyi Vese informed that the scheme will support machineries and tools for livelihood activities in beekeeping and other valued added related products. NBHM Team Member Mhathung Tsopoe briefed the background of the scheme.
