The President of Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI), KikhetoMuru, on October 28underscored the significance of community care for the elderly. Muru made the remarks during a visit to the Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto (SBCZ) Day Care Centre for the Elderly, which was organised to extend festive greetings and blessings to the elderly beneficiaries of the programme.

“We are happy to learn that the Women’s Department under SBCZ has been running this program since 2018,” said Muru. “With the dawn of the festive season, we have come to seek their blessings and extend our good wishes. We pray that God grants them good health and happiness during this season,” he added.

Vivikali A. Asumi, Music Director of SBCZ, encouraged the elderly participants to maintain both physical and spiritual well-being. “Take care of yourself every day it’s our thanksgiving to God,” she said. “Your body is a holy temple. Avoid oily and salty food, drink plenty of water, listen to soft and church hymnal songs, share your thoughts with others, and practice forgiveness and thanksgiving. Keep praying and encouraging one another.”

Kanili T. Yeptho, Day Care Supervisor, shared insights into the program’s growth and challenges. “The day care has been running since 2018 through the initiative of the Women’s Ministry of SBCZ during Kasheli’s tenure as Women Pastor,” she said. “In the initial stage, we had about five to seven individuals attending our weekly sessions every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Now, our regular attendance has grown to over 30 participants.”

She further explained that the center provides daily pick-up and drop-off services for attendees. “We want to accommodate more people, but due to space constraints and the lack of washroom facilities, we are unable to do so at the moment. We are in the process of seeking government recognition so that we can expand and provide better facilities,” she added.

During his address, KikhetoMurualso reflected on the growth of Zunheboto town. “Zunheboto was established in 1942 and is now 83 years old. Our town has changed drastically, and we must adapt to these changes while setting good examples for the younger generation,” he stated. “Not everyone will get government jobs. We have thousands of educated unemployed youth who will have to explore business opportunities. While online shopping is convenient, it cannot support you during difficult times. We must build local enterprises and strengthen our community economy.”

KohetoAchumi, a regular attendee of the day care program, emphasized the need for continued support. “The day care center needs more care, resources, and proper leadership to help it grow,” he said.
