ZCCI, ZRSU and NCD condemn alleged assault of youth

Dimapur/Zunheboto, August 3 (MExN): The Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI), Zunheboto Range Students' Union (ZRSU), and Naga Council Dimapur have condemned the alleged assault of a youth by members of NSCN (R) on August 2.

The victim, identified as Dick H Yepthomi of Natha Old village, is reportedly a butcher at Daily Bazaar, Zunheboto. In a press release, the ZCCI expressed grief and anger over what it termed a “bestial act” allegedly committed by the NSCN (R) upon one of its members.

According to the Chamber, the victim was allegedly car-lifted to an “uninhabited location wherein he was mercilessly beaten up black and blue to the point of near fatality” and intensely condemned the heinous crime perpetrated upon a naïve public.

The ZCCI also conveyed its commitment to the joint resolve of SYO, ZTK, ZAPO, and ZTGBA against the NSCN (R). “It is a sounding message against the current common malevolence pervasive in our society,” it added, further denouncing the “prevailing evils operating under the shadow of the national movement.”

The ZCCI further opined that the outcome at any stage of national struggle should be to create a conducive and enabling ambience for its subjects to thrive and prosper, and such a “horrifying incident” only adds to the current scepticism against the genuine struggle.

It also urged the law enforcement agency to “sincerely listen” to the public outcry for safety and justice and award befitting punishment to the perpetrators as per the law of the land.

Meanwhile, the ZRSU also condemned the incident as “both inhumane and intolerable.” It further expressed solidarity with the Sümi Youth Organisation (SYO), the Zunheboto Tokujo Kükami (ZTK), the Zunheboto Area Public Organisation (ZAPO), and the Zunheboto Town GB Association (ZTGBA) in their denouncement of the egregious act.

It also joined the aforesaid organisations in urging law enforcement agencies to take immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators to ensure that justice is served.

“Such violent acts have no place in our society and should be condemned by all as they not only inflict direct harm but also spread fear and insecurity throughout our society,” it added.

To prevent future incidents and to uphold peace and security in our society, the ZRSU also stated that it fully supports the resolution passed by the SYO, ZTK, ZAPO, and ZTGBA over the issue. The union also assured that it stands firmly against the brutal act and will continue to advocate for justice and human dignity.

It also extended its deepest sympathies to the victim and their family during this difficult time.

The NCD has also condemned the incident.
