ZCOs caution ‘dialectal groups’ against making 'unfounded claims'

Jalukie, September 9 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) consisting of the Zeliangrong Baudi(ANM), Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students’ Union on Wednesday cautioned the Joint Tribes Council of the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei  ‘dialectal groups’  against making “unfounded claims” in the media.

A press release from the ZCOs Media and Publicity Cell stated that some individuals of the dialectal groups i.e. Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei “are completely unaware that there are tribes who speak different dialects but no dialectal groups of those tribes ever claimed themselves as separate and distinct tribe.”

Stating that the central government will grant separate tribe recognition for any tribes that request it, the ZCOs is advised to those individuals of dialectal groups of Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei to be aware pof the different nomenclatures given to the Zeliangrong tribe in different Indian states. In Assam state of Dima Hasao (North Cachar Hills) the Zeliangrongs are recognised as Zeme Naga; in the Cachar valley as Hills Tribes in plain; in the State of Manipur as Kabui, Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, Inpui, Kacha Naga and in the state of Nagaland as Zeliang tribe, the release stated.
