Zunheboto, July 29 (MExN): Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) conducted jail lok adalat followed by a legal awareness programme at the District Jail, Zunheboto.
The jail lok adalat conducted by the ZDLSA for pending cases saw a total disposal of four cases on criminal compoundable matter. Later a legal awareness programme was organized for the jail inmates and jail staff on the theme ‘rights of prisoners and duties of jail warders.’
Atoka Achumi, Judicial Magistrate First class and Secretary of the ZDLSA presented the introduction and keynote address on the purpose of the programme and the role and of the legal services institution on safeguarding the rights and privileges of a prisoner.
The awareness programme intends to literate and informs the inmates of the jail and also the weaker sections of the society to make use of the free legal aid services.
Resource person Y. Katovi Awomi, Panel Lawyer, ZDLSA spoke on the statutory provisions on the topic of 'rights of prisoners and duties of jail warders.’ The jail inmates were also well informed and made aware of their right when they get arrested.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks from Tovi Z. Yeptho, Panel Lawyer, ZDLSA and benediction by Chaplin, District Jail Zunheboto.
