Dimapur, November 28 (MExN): The Zeliang Peoples’ Organization (ZPO) today advised the government of Nagaland not to shift government offices to Peren’s new district headquarter complex for reasons that the new site is still under dispute and tensions surround it. A note addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland from the ZPO’s leadership referred to reports that a committee has been set up for the purpose of shifting offices to the new headquarter complex.
“The present location of the New DC complex and the monolith of inauguration is still being disputed between the Old Jalukie village and Kejanglwa village as the verdict is yet to be out from the Hon’ble High Court…It is felt that the issue should be settled first before the actual shifting of the DC office in order to avoid discord and claims which might lead to disruptions and unfunctionability (sic) of office,” the Zeliang Peoples’ Organization stated. The press note was issued by ZPO President Azu Newmai, Deputy Speaker Heisuipeung and General Secretary Kiesamyi.
According to the ZPO, so far only three offices namely the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Industry’s & “Static office” have been completed at the new site. “So, the question of accommodating more than 40 departments in the said three offices is practically impossible. Hence, immediate shifting of all offices to the new site is deemed impracticable without constructed offices,” the ZPO said.
Further, the organization said basic infrastructural facilities such as water and electricity is yet to be for the area. “Without these, the smooth functioning of office and speedy delivery of services is highly impracticable. In addition, the first cutting of the road connections leading towards various sites and Sub divisional blocks of the district is not pliable. The only road leading towards the new DC complex from’ Jalukie (which is the only road where work is going on) is still felt wanted in many technicalities.”
Not a single staff quarter is being constructed till date, the organization said, and “expectations of attendance of the staffs in the offices would be next to nil” that would render the establishments ‘practically defunct.’ “Moreover, we are not aware of any proposal for conveyance and transportation facilities for the staffs and public commuters either on temporary or long term basis,” the ZPO said.
Stating these points, the ZPO said shifting the offices at this juncture would only serve to “severely victimize the innocent publics of Peren district.”
The ZPO explained in the letter – “It is deeply felt that first of all, the minimum basic requirements of the employees are in place for the smooth and speedy delivery of service to the general public before contemplating on the idea of shifting the offices to new site. We are also of the opinion that the offices should not be shifted to the disputed site as the case is still pending in the court.” Considering the stated realities, the ZPO appeals for wisdom and put on hold the idea of shifting the offices to the new site at this juncture for the greater interest of the public.
