DIMAPUR, JUNE 27 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur, Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMP) and Zeliangrong Student Union Manipur have condemned the killing of a 43 year old woman on June 25 at the NH 37 at Siguilong Village. A joint statement from ZB President, Poupoklung Kamei; ZYF (AMN) President, Titus Kamei; and ZSUM State Secretary, Heurang Newme stated that the victim, Jianthailiu Kamei was killed by “armed men who claimed to be cadres of NSCN (K).”
“This is not the first time such gruesome killings and harassment have been meted out to the public,” the statement added, while citing the killing of ZSUM Chairman Chunthugai Kamei in 2012; the assault on ZYF and ZU leaders at Kaiphundai in 2004; and the arson of a vehicle belonging to Zeliangrong Baudi President, Ningtangpou Kamei at Jiribam. “They are gang of dacoits who let loose reign of terror in Zeliangrong areas,” it stated.
The three organizations stated that the “NSCN (K) can no longer operate in Zliangrong areas and further apprised the Zeliangrong public not to extend any cooperation in the future.” They meanwhile demanded that those responsible for the June 25 killing pay adequate ex-gratia/compensation to the bereaved family “as per Zeliangrong customary law at the earliest.”
