Zeliangrong CSOs conduct consultative meeting

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): A joint consultative meeting of the Civil Society Organisations of Zeliangrong community was held today at Namdunlong Community Hall, Imphal. The joint meeting dwelt on prevailing situation in the State of Manipur vis-a-vis Zeliangrong people's situation and position. 

A joint statement from the ZU (AMN),  ZB (AMN), RNPO (AMN), ZYF, RNSOM, KAMA, and ZUCMV said that many speakers including prominent leaders spoke and shared their thoughts in the meeting and unanimously condemned the frequent gun fight occurred between the NSCN (IM) and ZUF in Zeliangrong territory “wherein two ZUF cadres and one NSCN (IM) cadre reportedly lost their precious lives in today's gun fight at Lamdangmei Chiru's village, despite the fact of NSCN (IM) and ZUF having Ceasefire and Cessation of Operation agreement with the Govt of India.” 

“There has been peace talk going on between the NSCN (IM) and Govt of India since 1997 whereas Cessation of Operation was signed between Govt of India and ZUF in 2022. Despite of all these facts frequent gun fight have been occurred in Zeliangrong areas which can be considered as the handiwork of the Government of India, therefore, the Government of India should bear the entire responsibility for all these mess,” the joint statement noted. 

It demanded that ncessary ex-gratia and other compensatory benefits as per relevant provision and rules should be given for the lost of precious lives “since it has been happened due to mishandling, inefficiency and dealing ineffectiveness on the part of the Government of India.” 

The meeting strongly urged to all armed groups to hear the voice of the people and respect the sentiment and interest of the people and stop killing among Nagas and shun any form of violent means forthwith if they really claim to represent the interest of the people for the betterment of future's posterity.

The meeting was attended by leaders of different Civil Societies Organisations namely Zeliangrong Union, Zeliangrong Baudi, Rongmei Naga People's Organisation, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Zeliangrong Youth Front, Rongmei Naga Student's Organisation Manipur, Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur Valley, Kabui Mother's Association, social workers and activists, intellectuals, former Organisations leaders, representatives and elders of villages with  Azang Longmei, President, ZU (AMN); Titus Kamei, Vice-President, ZB (AMN); S Sabastian Kamei, President, RNPO (AMN); and Atongpi, President KAMA shared as the presidium members in which Kadilin Gangmei, social worker moderated the meeting.
