Zeliangrong orgs demand revocation of NSCN (IM) decision on tribe recognition

Jalukie, April 4 (MExN): In a backlash to the decision of the NSCN (IM) Tatar Hoho to recognize Zeliangrong into three distinct tribes, apex Zeliangrong organizations have made a ‘declaration’ in the “common interest and aspiration of the people and to safeguard and protect the political future of the Zeliangrong people in particular and Nagas in general.”

The declaration demanded revocation of NSCN (IM) Tatar Hoho “arbitrary decision” on or before April 30 “in the interest of the Zeliangrong Tribe and in the larger interest of Naga people in general.”

The Zeliangrong people are “aggrieved” by the “unilateral decision” of the NSCN (IM) Tatar Hoho, stated the declaration released to the media, which was jointly appended by Nchahing Kompoing, president, All Zeliangrong Students' Union; Titus Kamei, president, Zeliangrong Youth Front; Athuan Abonmai, president, Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN).

The declaration was adopted during the ‘Zeliangrong Public Consultative Meeting’ held on April 3 at Zeliangrong Baudi Hall, Jalukie.

The Public Consultative Meeting, it said, was necessitated “following the Tatar Hoho, NSCN/GPRN (IM) arbitrary decision…to trifurcate and separately recognise the Zeliangrong tribe into three different /distinct tribes, i.e, Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei without prior consent of the Zeliangrong people which is completely contradictory to ‘Zeliangrong Tribe’ as recognised by the Naga Nation in all platforms.”

The declaration asserted that “the history of Zeliangrong people having common ancestry which is bound by indestructible bond of Blood Relationship shall uphold to sustain and to remain as one people, one vision and one voice.”   The collective political future of the Zeliangrong people, it stated, should not be disturbed/ sabotaged by any other forces from within and without.

It further demanded that the Executive Order issued by Late Isak Chishi Swu, the then Yaruiwo of NSCN (IM) dated June 30, 2011 stating “Zeliangrong should remain intake” should be upheld.

“The resolution of the Zeliangrong Co-ordinating Committee meeting adopted at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on April 15, 2018 is regretted and denounced by the Zeliangrong people,” it further stated.

The consultative meeting further resolved and re-affirmed to fully support the ongoing Naga peace process and the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015 between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).
