Zeliangrong orgs flay Mnp Govt’s role over boundary dispute

TAMENGLONG: One more house was burnt last night as a fallout of the Jiribam-Tamenglong district boundary dispute, according to Zeliangrong organisations.

Pertaining to Jiribam-Tamenglong district boundary dispute and the unwanted incidents cropping up from the issue, the Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur (ZB-M) and Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur (ZSUM) said they condemned the April 13 and April 19 incidents and they are closely monitoring the unfurling of situation.

According to the two Zeliangrong organisations, in the wee hours of April 13 some masked men had beaten some Zeliangrong students black and blue and subsequently their rented house was set ablazed locking the door from outside.

ZB-M and ZSUM informing that fortunately, the victims managed to escape breaking the door from inside, stated, "In such gruesome incident the act of the miscreants were widely condemned by many social organisations across the state. This is a clear sign of communal flare-up between two communities."

The ZB-M and ZSUM allege that one community has been supported by the Manipur government led by Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh.

"This boundary dispute between Tousem sub-division, Tamenglong district and Jiribam sub-division, Imphal East district has been dragging for a quite long time but the state government is neglecting the issue letting the situation to slip to the deteriorating condition. The Government of Manipur is deliberately allowing the two communities to escalate into open fight for the border issue now. The Government is being tagged as communal Government by many tribal bodies of Manipur, has proved to be true with this indifferent attitude towards the issue. Now the issue between the two communities is widening with the recurrent of conflict by burning down another house of Zeliangrong belongs to Mr Dinbui Gangmei at Lamkhai Bazar, Jiribam in the midnight of April 19. The miscreants belong to Meitei community," stated the two Zeliangrong organisations.

They then said the Manipur Government has failed to provide security to the minority even in the high security zone. These few incidents happened one after another in the same area victimising the same community prove to be the handiwork of the ruling party in their own bastion, ZB and ZSUM stated.

"The present Government does not have the will to solve the problem but infuse the situation by being a mere spectator when life has been victimised and the houses vandalised. The delay in delivering justice to the victims means justice is denied to the suppressed people. The delay in intervening the conflict situation in Jiribam the more fomenting the tension allowing damaging the age old ties between the two communities beyond repair," the two Zeliangrong organisations said.

"We, the Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur, and Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur, strongly condemned the incidents and closely monitoring the situations. The Zeliangrong community and its allied communities will strongly response to the incident if not subside the tension in the next few days. The Zeliangrong community is ready to initiate strong and severe form of agitations against the concerned authority if the culprits and its gang are not awarded befitting punishment by the state. We also demand adequate compensations and reliefs to the victims based on the properties damaged and the degree of physically and mentally injured persons at the earliest," the two Zeliangrong bodies warned.
