KOHIMA, MARCH 3 (MExN): Newly elected member of the state general elections from 5 Ghaspani II A/C has expressed desire to become the “wind of change” for the people of his constituency which he added had been neglected for a long time.

“I’ll personally visit all the villages and see what they have, their requirements and work accordingly,” Zhaleo told The Morung Express at his Kohima residence on Sunday.

According to the former Commissioner and Secretary, many people lack proper knowledge about the numerous schemes from the state and central government. Zhaleo said he wanted to act as a ‘teacher’ for the people by sensitizing and educating them about the various facilities and benefits available from the government.

Zhaleo stated that his priority was for the all round development of Ghaspani and also expressed interest to develop Dimapur if given opportunity. As an elected member, Zhaleo said that it was his responsibility to look after the entire state. He noted the need for expansion of Dimapur which is inhabited by various communities from across the country and for which reason he added, “Kohima should not be the mirror of Nagaland but Dimapur should be.”

Further, he also opined that Jalukie and Ghaspani should be clubbed and called as the ‘rice bowl’ of Nagaland as Ghaspani also produces rice in large scale. At present Jalukie has the tag attached to it.

Zhaleo identified poverty as the root cause of all anti-social elements infesting Dimapur and said he planned to work towards alleviating the people. He said youth development was also one of his main concerns.
