ZHAVAME, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): The Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) on Saturday held its 66th General Session at the Public Amphitheatre, Pame Tsiidu, Zhavame village, under the theme “Igniting Transformative Change.” The session was organised by the Student Council and reflected the union’s commitment to promoting progressive thinking, responsible citizenship, and value-based leadership among students.
The programme began with the unfurling of the ZSU flag by the special guest, Dr Roland Lotha, philanthropist and social activist. The event was attended by community leaders, elders, parents, students, and well-wishers. The guest of honour, Chasii Charles Krocha, Assistant Headmaster, Government High School, Longmatra, Kiphire, extended his best wishes and encouraged students to believe that irrespective of background, success can be achieved through a proper study environment, hard work, and dedication.
Village Council Chairman (VCC) Zhavame, Zao Krocha, acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the ZSU leadership and expressed appreciation to Dr. Lotha for gracing the occasion. He urged the village community and students to uphold unity, support one another, and work collectively for progress.
Outgoing ZSU president Joshua Rhi, in his presidential address, described the general session as an important platform for intellectual growth, interaction, and reaffirmation of student responsibilities. He emphasised discipline, academic pursuit, and moral values among the youth, reiterating the union’s motto, “Serve, Strive, Thrive.” The Nomination Committee later elected the new team of office bearers, with Bunyi Krocha taking charge as the newly elected president of ZSU.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Roland Lotha expressed happiness at the active participation of students and described Zhavame as a peaceful and united community, referring to it as “a land flowing with milk and honey.” He stressed that unity beyond denominational lines is essential for community development and progress, noting that many societal challenges stem from excessive individualism. He called upon the people to stand together as one family, choose good leaders, and work for the common good. Highlighting the importance of prayer and perseverance, he encouraged students to pursue education despite challenges and urged parents to support their children’s aspirations. He said true happiness begins within the family, which he described as the greatest blessing.
The valedictory address was delivered by Jonah Domeh, Uwin Coordinator, UNPD, who urged students to view student life as a foundation for future responsibilities and student leadership as a practical training ground. He highlighted cleanliness as a reflection of discipline and personality and encouraged youth to take the lead in maintaining clean surroundings. On career development, he advised students to identify their strengths, nurture entrepreneurship, and work with sincerity in both government and private sectors. He also urged the younger generation to adapt to the digital age, continuously upgrade skills, and use technology responsibly, while appealing to students to respect elders and calling upon parents to guide the present generation with patience.
A highlight of the session was the presentation of Achievers’ and Special Awards. The union felicitated Visoupfu Domeh (Top 10 HSLC), Vipune Domeh (Top 20 HSLC), Dr Dovine Dukru for completing a PhD on “Computational Stimulation and Analysis of Fluid Flow with Variable Flow Specification,” and Khruvi Shupao for clearing the Forest Guard Examination 2025. The Best Teacher Award (Deo Theodore Memorial Award) was conferred on Zen Dukru in recognition of her dedication and service. The awardees were congratulated for bringing laurels to the community and for serving as role models for younger students.
The programme concluded with expressions of gratitude to all participants, invitees, and supporters. The 66th General Session reaffirmed the values of unity, education, and service, and was followed by the 11th Talent Night and the second edition of Mr and Miss ZSU. The union expressed gratitude to elders, churches, parents, and well-wishers for their continued support and prayers.
