Dimapur, November 3 (MExN): The 50th Annual Sports Meet of the Niuland Area Sports Association (NASA) has officially commenced at Hovishe village commemorating the 50 years of Hovishe Memorial Trophy on November 3.
Minister for Public health Engineering Department, Jacob Zhimomi, graced the sports meet as the chief guest, stated a press release received here.
In his address, Zhimomi stated that sports had already taken a central role in generating employment, income and social progress and that the ‘old ways of having only to vie for central and state services are long gone.
He stated that the field of sports in Nagaland was beginning to establish solid ground and that he urged the aspiring sportspersons to re-dedicate themselves towards achieving success through hard work and sincerity.
Emphasizing that physical well-being goes hand in hand with mental well-being, he stated that sports was the healthiest outlet for young people instead of drugs and alcohol - both of which only brought about destruction and chaos in Naga society.
Furthermore, he stated that sports has been a platform of reaffirming the bonds of friendship and brotherhood and that he hoped the sports meet will continue to encourage hope, promote peace and foster unity.
