Peren, April 21 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has strongly condemned what it termed a “heinous attack” on Naga civilians at TM-Kason village along National Highway-202 on April 18.
Two persons identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao of Tashar village and Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom village, under Ukhrul district in Manipur, were reportedly killed in the attack.
In a press release, the ZSUN stated that the “deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of humanity and a grave infringement upon the fundamental right of our people to live in peace and security within their own homeland.”
Such acts not only endanger innocent lives but also severely undermine societal harmony and the collective pursuit of lasting peace, it added.
Accordingly, the ZSUN called upon the concerned authorities to act with utmost urgency and responsibility in bringing the perpetrators to justice and to ensure a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation so that accountability is firmly established.
Any failure in this regard would constitute a grave dereliction of duty and a serious affront to justice, it added, asserting that the ZSUN unequivocally rejects such acts of brutality and remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and security of the Naga homeland.
The union also offered condolences to the bereaved families and extended its solidarity in sharing their sorrow while upholding their rightful demand for justice.
“This loss is not borne by the families alone; it reverberates throughout the entire Naga community, leaving an irreplaceable void,” the ZSUN added.
