ZSUN presses govt to expedite road works

Peren, July 21 (MExN): The Zeme Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has met the Engineer in Chief of Nagaland PWD at his office and briefed him regarding the deteriorating condition of the roads under Nsong Kebai area, which connect to different villages and the nearest towns in the district.  

ZSUN vice president Amua Francis Pame and general secretary, Deichungbe had pointed out that not even half of the road construction works in the area under Pradhan Mandri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is complete.  

According to a press release from the ZSUN vice president, the union also highlighted the negligence of the contractors and construction agencies within its jurisdiction and sought necessary intervention from the government of the day and department to compel the contractors to resume the work at the earliest.   “Failing which, the union shall initiate its own course of action as per the law of the land,” it cautioned.  

The release further informed that the Engineer in Chief Limatongdang Jamir said that a meeting was conducted on June 25, 2018 with all the contractors to take stock of the situation why the construction works have been halted for many years.   Reacting to the negligence of the contractors and construction agencies, he stated that an agreement has been signed with all the contractors to resume the pending works which have been kept untouched for many years and complete the work latest by December 31, the release said.  

“If any of the contractors fails to comply with the agreement signed, the department is ready to initiate penalties and necessary actions in case of failing to complete the work within the stipulated given time,” it quoted.  

In order to “fulfil the aspiration of the people” by completing the pending construction works of PMGSY, ZSUN also interacted with Hozheto Shikhu, Superintendent Engineer for PMGSY to understand the problems faced by the people of the area for decades and urged the department to immediately intervene and resume the work, it was further informed.  

The engineer highlighted the ground reality of the area and appealed to the public general to cooperate when the works resume. He also assured the union that he and his departments are working hard to bring possible solution within the given deadline, the release added.
