Peren, April 14 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) on Friday “declared the illegal proxy teacher system will be abolished within its district.” ZSUN had undertaken an educational tour on the theme ‘redefining responsibilities’ to all the Government High Schools and Government Higher Secondary Schools within Peren district.
During the visit, the union interacted with the concerned department officials, school management, teaching faculties and students with the objective to foster quality education and also committed to take up the genuine issues compiled during the tour.
ZSUN in its press statement also informed the government teachers who are unable to perform their duties to voluntarily retire so that thousands of aspiring unemployed youth may get a chance. The union cautioned that it would conduct surprise checking in all the schools simultaneously within the district at any time.
It “firmly warned” that teachers failing to comply with the directive, ZSUN would “not hesitate to execute its own course of action, including liable for termination of service if absent for more than one month without leave or if found employing proxy teachers.”
Further, it disclosed that many schools were found functioning without head teacher, assistant headmaster, language teacher, office assistant (UDA), LDA & computer assistants, peon, chowkidar and draughtsmen. Also the school had been functioning for years without subject teachers i.e. Mathematics, Science and Hindi.
It also stated that “schools in all aspects were in undeniably pathetic conditions.” Some of the discrepancies observed during the tour included shortage of teachers in all the schools, inadequate blackboard and lack of basic infrastructures which need to be immediately readdressed by the authority incharge.
Therefore, the union has made a strong demanded to the concerned authority to give the due right of the school backed at the earliest for the benefits of student community.
