Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students' Union Nagaland on Tuesday reaffirmed its demand for exemplary action against the people behind the June 3 incident and the representation of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on COVID-19 Peren.
In this regard, a press release from the Union on June 9 informed of its decision to hold a peaceful rally in Peren on June 10. “Any untoward incident arising in future, as a result of the brazen negligence of the Government of Nagaland towards the people of Peren district, the Government of the day shall be fully held responsible,” the statement read.
Further, the Union’s President and General Secretary expressed disappointment and resentment over the Government of Nagaland’s alleged disregard of the appeals made by the Union as well as the JAC which is a conglomeration of NGOs, tribal bodies and Church organizations in the district. It alleged that the State Government has decided to “sweep the whole fiasco under the rug with no concrete enquiry or action,” by accepting the ‘lame excuse’ that the returnees had similar names.
“Whereas, given the lack of basic medical equipments in the Designated COVID hospital, the demands for a quick redress has also yielded no positive response from the Government, but only violated the laid down Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) thus putting the lives of the public at risk,” the ZSUN stated.
