ZU (AMN) calls for deferment of Zeliangriong People Summit

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 22 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Union (ZU) Assam Manipur Nagaland (AMN) has asked the organizing committee of the Zeliangriong People Summit 2020 to defer the summit “in the greater interest of the Zeliangrong people in particular and the Naga people in general.”

A press release from K Poushinglung, Administration Secretary, ZU (AMN) appreciated the zeal and aspiration of the Civil Rights Forum Peren for convening the summit to consolidate Zeliangrong political stance.

The event has been scheduled to be held on November 25 by the forum with the theme ‘Accentuate People’s Aspiration’ at Samziuram Village Council Hall, Jalukie.

The ZU (AMN) however felt that the “organizing committee has left out most of the civil society organizations of the Zeliangrong people and there is lack of consultation for the proposed programme.” “It will be better if it is organised by any existing apex body of the Zeliangrong people. The timing of convening such summit is not conducive at this critical juncture as the Naga peace talk is going on in full swing and on top of that the COVID-19 pandemic is at its peak,” it added.

The union meanwhile affirmed that it stands for unity, solidarity and integrity of the Zeliangrong people living in the three states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland from its establishment till date.

It informed that the ZPC was formed on October 11, 1980 at the third Zeliangrong leaders and organizations meeting at Tamenlong HQ organised by the then Zeliangrong Naga Union (ZNU) for political unity and to work out the “reunification of the Zeliangring areas and to demand one political unit for the entire Zeliangrong people.”

The union informed that the ZPC was formed with 59 prominent leaders from the three states as a standing body to bring highest possible political goal for the Zeliangrong people.
